Aren't you infringing on copyrights by printing the 5E rules and references?

All content in the HeroBook has been sourced from the 5th Edition System Reference Document, which has been published under the open source Open Gaming License by Wizards of the Coast. You can find more details here:

Will you be including content from books like Xanathar's Guide to Everything and Volo's Guide to Monsters?

Unfortunately not. These books are protected by copyright and cannot be legally reproduced and sold. All content in the HeroBook has been sourced from the 5th Edition System Reference Document, which has been published under the open source Open Gaming License by Wizards of the Coast.

Are all of the pages in HeroBook reusable?

Only the inside of the front and back covers are laminated and usable with wet or dry erase markers. The inside front cover serves as your character sheet, while the inside back cover is left mostly blank for temporary note taking. The rest of the book is regular 70lb acid-free, satin paper. This paper does hold up pretty well to bleeding, so you can absolutely use your wet or dry erase markers on the regular paper, but they won’t be erasable.

Why does HeroBook have an exposed spine?

In addition to looking awesome, the exposed spine is flexible and thus allows the book to lay completely flat. This makes it very comfortable to write and draw in, and also prevents pages from flipping inadvertently while you’re reading rules.

I don't play 5th Edition. Can I get a HeroBook for a different game system?

In order to keep costs and complexity as low as possible, this Kickstarter project will only be producing HeroBooks for the 5E system. Should the campaign be successful, I will definitely be considering other systems that have released their rules under an open source license, such as Pathfinder.

Will you be offering a local pick-up option for Vancouver backers?

Thank you so much for your support, fellow Vancouverites! This is unfortunately not possible for this campaign. As I am planning on working with several different shipping providers across the US and Canada depending on the success of the campaign and the geographical distribution of backers, the logistics of offering local pick-up would be very difficult.

Does HeroBook support multiple characters?

There is only one character sheet in HeroBook, in the inside front cover, but the book contains a handful of “character logs” that will allow you to keep track of multiple characters.

What do you mean by "reusable" character sheet?

The character sheet in HeroBook, located on the inside front cover, is laminated with a 1.5mil polypropylene coating. This non-porous surface allows you to use wet or dry-erase markers, erase the surface, and re-use it. The cover material is 120lb card stock paper, so I recommend pressing lightly when writing to avoid permanent indentations.

How will I get my HeroBook?

I’ll be working with BackerKit to finalize your pledge and collect details like your cover options and add-on preferences. We’re working with two awesome fulfillment providers to get you your HeroBooks: Snakes & Lattes for Canadian backers, and Blackbox for all other backers.

BackerKit FAQ

What is BackerKit?

BackerKit is a service that crowdfunded project creators use to keep track of hundreds to tens of thousands of backers—from shipping details, pledge levels, preferences and quantities, whether they have paid or had their card declined, special notes, and everything in between!

The BackerKit software and support team is independent from the campaign’s project team—BackerKit does not handle the actual reward shipping. For more information about the preparation or delivery status of your rewards, please check the project's updates page.

How does BackerKit work?

After the campaign ends, the project creator will send you an email with a unique link to your survey. You can check out a walkthrough of the process here.

I never received my invitation. How do I complete the survey?

The most common reasons for not receiving a survey email is that you may be checking an email inbox different from the email address you used to sign up with Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account, or it may be caught in your spam filter.

Confirm that the email address you are searching matches the email address tied to your Kickstarter, Indiegogo, or Tilt Pro account. If that doesn’t work, then try checking your spam, junk or promotions folders. You can also search for "backerkit” in your inbox.

To resend the survey to yourself, visit the project page and input the email address associated with your Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account.

How do I update my shipping address?

BackerKit allows you to update your shipping address until the shipping addresses are locked by the project creator. To update your address, go back to your BackerKit survey by inputting your email here.

When will my order be shipped, charged or locked?

That is handled directly by the project creator. BackerKit functions independently of the project itself, so we do not have control of their physical shipping timeline. If you want to check on the project’s status, we recommend reading over the project's updates page.

I completed the survey, but haven't received my rewards yet. When will they arrive?

As BackerKit does not actually handle any rewards or shipping, the best way to stay updated on the shipping timeline would be to check out the project's updates page.
